Micro Agent is a generative AI tool, presented by Builder.io, that creates code by focusing on a single specific task and using unit tests to supply clear, deterministic feedback. The chapter that describes it introduces it under Builder.io’s own framing of it as an “(actually reliable)” AI coding agent.

It works in four steps. The user first describes the function they want in natural language. From that description Micro Agent generates unit tests defining the function’s expected behaviour, covering several input and output scenarios. It then uses a large language model to write code — JavaScript, TypeScript, Python or other languages — intended to pass those generated tests. If the first attempt fails any test, it repeatedly edits the source and reruns the tests until every test passes, which is what is meant to ensure the final code meets the stated requirements.

The advantages claimed for it follow from that loop: the generated code is described as more reliable and more likely to meet its requirements because it has passed deterministic tests, and the automated iteration is presented as a way to produce working code efficiently while raising confidence in the result.
