Summary
Anthropic studied how AI is changing work for its own engineers and researchers, combining an August 2025 survey of 132 staff, 53 in-depth interviews and an analysis of 200,000 internal Claude Code transcripts. Respondents self-reported using Claude in 59% of their work with an average 50% productivity gain, and the transcript data showed Claude Code handling more complex tasks with more consecutive tool calls and fewer human turns. The interviews surfaced both broadened, more full-stack skill sets and concerns about skill atrophy, the paradox of supervising AI with skills that AI use may erode, reduced collaboration and mentorship, and career uncertainty.
