Summary
A HumanLayer blog post from November 25, 2025, also applicable to AGENTS.md, on how to write a CLAUDE.md file. Starting from the premise that LLMs are stateless, it treats CLAUDE.md as the way to onboard Claude to a codebase (what, why and how), and recommends keeping it short and universally applicable, using progressive disclosure through separate task-specific files, leaving code style to deterministic linters and hooks, and writing it by hand rather than auto-generating it.
